Indian Red Cross Society J&K State Branch celebrated World Red Cross Day at Srinagar.
The theme for World Red Cross Day 2017 was "Less Known Red Cross Stories".
A.M. Mir, who is the Executive Director of the J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association, presided as Chief Guest on this occasion.
Shafi Rather, General Secretary of the State Red Cross Society stressed upon the need of establishing Red Cross Unit in educational institutions across the state.
On the sidelines, a blood donation camp was organized by J&K State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society in collaboration with Blood Bank of Lalla Ded Hospital Srinagar, in which almost 50 units of blood were collected.
On the occasion active volunteers and Master Trainers of Red Cross were honoured by the chief guest which include, Syed Imtiyaz Ahmad and Dr. Itenderpal Singh Bali.
Approximately 50 points of blood was donated by the volunteers, prominent among them was Shabir Ahmad, who had already given 151 blood points at different camps.
Students from different schools of the Srinagar district participated in the painting competition in which Nargis Shakeel of Government Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh bagged first position.
A seminar was also held highlighting the role and importance of Red Cross Mission. Afnan Ali of Presentation Convent School got the best orator prize.
A volunteer group of nine people from Haigam Sopore which had a physically challenged member as a donor also donated blood. The organizers also distributed school bags to underprivileged school girls, containing notebooks, stationary items, hygiene kits, Tiffin sets and junk jewelry.
Principal KBHSS, Romana Qazi was also felicitated for her support to the event.
