27 years on, brother-in-law of Al-Umar chief still untraced

It has been 27 years since Sirajuddin Farooqi, bother-in-law of Al-Umar chief Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, disappeared in forces custody from Nowhatta. Eversince his family has been seeking his whereabouts.

According to the family Farooqi was picked up by Border Security Forces (BSF) on 22 January 1992 during a nocturnal raid on the house of Al-Umar chief Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar.

   

The family said Farooqi had come to attend a family function at the residence of his in-laws from where he was picked up along with his brother-in-law Fayaz Ahmed. However, the family said, Fayaz was released after three months at Chowkibal in Kupwara district.

Farooqi, originally hails from Safa Kadal area of old city. “We don’t know whether he is dead or alive. We are waiting for him to return for the past 27 years,” said the family members. 

They urged the international human rights organizations to help them trace Farooqi.
