8TH PHASE OF PANCHAYAT POLLS: Heavy voter turnout across Pir Panchal

Heavy voter turnout was again observed across the Pir Panchal region on Saturday, during the eight phase of panchayat polls.

Voting was held in two blocks, Kalakote and Moughla, of Rajouri district and four blocks, Katra, Panthal, Pouni and Reasi, of Reasi deistrict. Besides, repolling was conducted in Rajal pacnhayat halqa of Nowshera and two wards of Samote panchayat on Saturday.

   

In Rajouri district, voting for 11 panchayat sarpanch halqas and 87 panch wards was held in Moughla block. The block recorded 81.75 percent voter turnout. Similarly, in Kalakote block, votes were casted for 21 panchayat halqas and 155 panch wards and the overall percentage of the block was recorded at 82.91 percent.

Meanwhile, repolling was held in Rajal panchayat of Nowshera block, wherein voting had been cancelled due to the direction of a court. On Saturday, 86.17 percent voter turnout was recorded in the seven wards of the panchayat. Similarly, in the two wards of Samote panchayat of Rajnagar block, where voting was cancelled on December 4, due to a printing error in the ballot papers, voting was held on Saturday. 81.26 percent voters exercised their right in the two wards of the panchayat. In Reasi district, 10233 of 11372 votes (89.98%) were casted in Katra block, 10490 of 11500 votes (91.22%) in Panthal block, 26565of 30063 votes (88.36%) in Pouni block and 15349 of 16794 votes (91.4%) in Reasi block.

Counting was going on at all polling stations, till last reports poured in.
