Abduction bid foiled by villagers in Bandipora

An abduction bid was foiled by alert villagers in north Kashmir’s Bandipora village late night on Sunday.

The incident occurred at Chrengpora Banyari village near Hajin on Sunday night, when two to three masked gunmen tried to abduct Shahid Ahamd Khan, 25 while he was working at his paddy field, witnesses from the village said.

They said cries of Khan alerted nearby people, who rushed towards the spot, while announcements were also made through public address systems asking people to come out of their homes.

They added seeing the huge crowd charging towards them, masked gunmen fled from the spot.

Pertinently, last week militants had appeared in Hajin town and in their address to people denied their hand in civilian killings.

Lately, Bandipora has been witnessing civilian killings by unidentified gunmen, who are killing people after abducting them. A police official from the district said they are clueless about these mysterious killings happening in Bandipora.
