Rajouri: After more than 20 years, the agricultural fields located near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts are witnessing a full farming season as the farmers can carry out their agriculture works in the fields without fear of firing and shelling.
The atmosphere on the LoC has been peaceful for the past nine months as a ceasefire agreement between the armies of India and Pakistan was announced this year on February 26.
After the ceasefire agreement, a peaceful situation is prevailing along the LoC with not even a single incident of ceasefire violation being reported although some infiltration attempts and other militancy acts have taken place.
Resultantly, the agricultural fields located along the LoC are abuzz with farmers indulging in different agricultural practices.
The farmers living along the LoC said that earlier their agriculture work used to remain confined due to a constant threat of firing and shelling but now they were able to carry out their agricultural activities without any fear.
“We remember those years when no one from the area was able to go in the agricultural fields for work and the farmers of our area were not even able to sow seeds in the fields,” said Muhammad Rashid of Lam.
Rizwan, 19, while working in the fields in the Lam area said that the peaceful situation prevailing along the LoC was like a dream come true for them.
“Agriculture fields in our village are fertile and have the potential to support large-scale agriculture production but farmers were not able to work freely in their fields in the past. This year things have changed and they are now able to work in the fields without fear,” he said.
Several thousands of kanal of agricultural fields are located along the LoC, many thousands kanal land even located beyond the barbed wire fence.
In the past, many farmers were even killed and injured due to firing and shelling along the LoC.
