Animals used to transport ration in 12 stores in Rajouri

The government spends around twelve lakh rupees a year to transport rice on the back of horses and mules in Rajouri. Ration being transported by animals, mainly horses and mules,  on as many as 12 stores in Rajouri. The government spends Rs 98,750 monthly as animal charges, amounting to Rs 11,85,000 per annum. 

Although there is some temporary road connectivity in some of these stores, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) is yet to switch over to the vehicular mode of transportation. 

   

The details available with Greater Kashmir reveal that there is a total of 505 government ration stores in Rajouri district, out of which 479 are private stores and 26 are government sale depots.

Out of the twelve stores, seven are in the Kalakote area and five in Kotranka.

The ration stores where ration is provided from FCS&CA store of Kalakote area include Barwari, Dayar Gala, Narla Bambal, Hari Chuma, Udhaan, Kote Charwal and Sadha. The other five stores in Kotranka department store include Kangota, Kha-Jamola, Marhuta, Sajani Hill and Gundi Badhal.
