BAT attack “foiled” in Poonch; Intruder killed, two soldiers injured

Army on Monday claimed to have foiled a Border Action Team (BAT) attack in Gulpur sector of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir by killing an intruder. However, two army men were wounded in the attack.

An army official said that the BAT attack took place in Gulpur area of Poonch last evening around 5:15 when “Pakistan army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars”.

   

“Our troops responded with retaliatory fire in equal measure,” he said.

“The alert troops noticed some movement and immediately engaged the group with effective fire. There was immediate retaliation from the armed intruders. The supporting and covering fire from Pak Army posts with a view to cover the move & help in extrication of the armed intruders continued unabated.”

Two injured soldiers wounded in the attack were airlifted to a hospital in Udhampur for treatment where their condition is stated to be stable.

“In this ensuing firefight, one armed intruder was killed and at least two others sustained grievous injuries and were seen returning towards Pakistani post. Subsequent search and sanitization operations carried out resulted in recovery of one body in combat fatigues,” said Jammu-based Army PRO.

Three live RPG grenades, four disposable rocket launchers, IKOM radio set, one AK Magazine, two Molotov cocktails, four UBGL grenades, seven hand grenades were also recovered from th area, he said.
