BAT action foiled in Kupwara, 2 attackers killed: Army

Two persons the army said “likely” were Pakistani soldiers were killed in Nowgam area of Kupwara district along the Line of Control.

An army official said the Indian soldiers foiled an attack by Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) that tried to strike on an army post on Monday morning.

   

He said a “large cache of warlike stores were recovered from the deceased”, and added that a “few other intruders managed to escape back into Pakistani territory taking advantage of firing cover provided by Pakistan army and bad weather conditions”. “The attackers were wearing combat dresses like Pakistani Regulars and were carrying stores with Pakistani markings. Some intruders were also seen in BSF and old pattern IA dresses as part of deception. They had intruded well equipped with IEDs, incendiary materials, explosives, and a plethora of arms and ammunition”, the official said.

He said the army would ask Pakistan to “take the remains of the deceased”. India and Pakistan regularly exchange fire along the LoC and International Border and blame each other for initiating firing. Scores of soldiers and civilians have been killed on both sides.
