BJP councilor cremated in Jammu

Jammu, June 3: BJP councilor Rakesh Pandita, who was gunned by militants in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, was cremated here Thursday.

As the mortal remains of Pandita reached his residence in Jammu, emotions ran high as the family members were inconsolable.

Speaking to media persons, Pandita’s son Paras Pandita said that his father spoke to him last night and asked him about the family’s well being and advised him to take care of the family.

He said the killing of his father had snatched the sole bread earner of their family.

“It is the death of my dreams. I am a class 12th student. Now, I do not know whether to continue studies or look for some work,” Paras said.

“He was working for the people of Tral and was instrumental in carrying many developmental works,” he said.

Paras said that families were getting destroyed with these target killings.

He demanded security should be provided to those who work for the people in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina, Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma and other senior leaders also went to the residence of Pandita at Roop Nagar and offered their condolences.

Speaking to the media persons, Raina condemned the killing and termed Pandita a brave politician who worked for the people and initiated various developmental works in Tral.

He said that it was a “cowardly act” to kill the BJP leader in darkness.

“Whosoever is found involved in the conspiracy of killing Pandita will be taken to task. We will avenge his death by eliminating militants from Kashmir,” Raina said.

He said Pandita was a challenge to the separatists and militants in Kashmir.
