Central Kashmir | Amenities bring voters out in Soibugh

In Soibugh constituency of central Kashmir’s Budgam district that went to polls in the seventh phase of the District Development Councils (DDC) elections on Wednesday, voters said their vote should serve as a “wake-up call to the administration” for ensuring development of the area.

“For last several decades we have been neglected with bad roads and power connectivity. Apart from potable water we lag behind in every kind of civic amenities,” Mushtaq Ahmad, a voter said.

   

While Soibugh has been known for boycotting polls, the voter footfall for DDC polls showed an increase.

Ahmad said the change was an attempt of the locals to press for their long-pending demands.

“The vote is an answer from the common people to the government that we can make or break the corridors of power,” Another voter Irshad Khan said the reassurance of senior leaders Jehangir Ahmad, a voter said people should not let their vote go waste and choose a representative only after putting a thought to into it.

He said their expectation from the winning candidate would be to raise the issue of power connectivity and road infrastructure with the higher authorities.
