A joint rescue operation by Ramban police and SDRF continued its job on the second consecutive day today to trace bodies of persons which were on board a tempo traveller that on Monday fell into river Chenab.
The tempo traveller bearing registration number JK 14-D 7929 reportedly carrying 9 passengers including four IRP cops plunged into river Chenab at Mehar on Monday afternoon in district Ramban.
One passenger hailing from Chandrigam Awantipora identified as Mehrajuddin son of Gulam Moinuddin had miraculously escaped in the accicent.
The team could not trace any body today. However, the identity of some drowned passengers has been established from the bags police collected from the river.
Police said that they would get the divers from India Navy for rescue.
They said that relatives of feared drowned persons have been informed telephonically.
Meanwhile, Ramban police issued a list of four missing cops: Head constable Mohammad Latief son of Abdul Salam resident of Duru Anantnag at present 7th battalion Channi Jammu; Constable operator Aashaq Hussain son of Mohammad Yaseen Gani of Chadoora Budgam at present IR 16th Bn Ramban; Constable operator Altaf Ahmed son of Abdul Kabir of Sherpura Pattan of IR 16th Bn Ramban and Constable Hafeez Ahmed of Gandarwan Akhnoor Jammu posted in IR 16th Bn Ramban.
It identified others as: Driver Ajay Kumar son of Tara Chand of Pouni Reasi, Kuljeet Singh Nek Singh of Mutlal Ukhral district Ramban, Sheshan Devi wife of Nek Singh Ukhral district Ramban and Arun Gupta son of Jag Narayan of Rohtas Bihar employee of a construction company IROCON working at Srinagar.
Police identified the only survivor as Mehrajuddin son of Gulam Moinuddin resident of Avantipura, Srinagar posted on 7th Batallion IRP at Channi Jammu.
A case FIR number 144 of 2020 under section 279/337IPC stands registered at police station Ramban for further investigations.
