CSEU urges governor to ensure safety of Darbar move employees in Jammu

Seeking foolproof security for Darbar move employees, the civil secretariat employees’ union (CSEU) president Ghulam Rasool Mir Friday alleged that residential quarters of the employees were attacked in Jammu by arsonists.

“Our vehicles have been damaged and attempts were made to torch our houses,” GNS news agency quoted Mir as saying.

According to the news agency, Mir said if the government failed to provide them with foolproof security “the employees from Kashmir will be forced to return home to protect themselves and their families.”

“I have brought it to the notice of the chief secretary, the director general of police and the commissioner secretary home,” he said, adding that if the government failed to provide the required security “to safeguard the life and the property of the employees, we will appeal to the employees to protect themselves and their families and return to Kashmir.”

It may be mentioned that crowds carrying tricolour went on a rampage in Jammu on Friday, torching vehicles and damaging houses during a bandh call issued by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and supported by the Jammu Bar association.

Even as the district magistrate announced curfew in the Jammu city, sources said it was not effectively imposed on the ground.

President, Darbar Move Employees’ Federation Owais Wani said the curfew imposed by the administration was “symbolic” and was imposed strictly.

“Wherever vehicles bearing Kashmir registration numbers are seen, they are being damaged by the mobs,” he said, according to news agency.
