DAK appeals DGP to release doc arrested in Kulgam

Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has expressed concern over the arrest of Dr Aijaz Rasool after forces recovered arms and ammunition from his vehicle on Saturday evening in Mir Bazar area of Kulgam.

In a statement, DAK said the doctor “has no direct role in the incident and has been arrested for none of his fault” and appealed the DGP S P Vaid to take a “humanitarian approach in the whole matter and release the said doctor immediately.”

“Though DAK has not been able to establish any contact with the said doctor however according to sources and as per the media reports he was attending his uncle at District Hospital Anantnag, who was not keeping well and was admitted in the hospital. He left the hospital at late evening hours and while on his way home he was stopped by some unknown persons who asked him for a lift,” said DAK President, Dr Suhail Naik, adding that the said doc allowed the men to board his vehicle on “humanitarian grounds”. “The said persons escaped from the vehicle and left their luggage in the car when the car was intercepted by the police party. While searching the vehicle as per media reports some objectionable material was found in the car and after that the said doctor was apprehended by the police and is in the police custody till now.”
