‘Detained amid exams’, 2 Class 12 students demand re-examination

Two higher secondary level students who failed to complete their board exams because they were allegedly detained by government forces during raids on their homes in Shopian demanded a makeup opportunity.

The families of the two 12th standard students alleged that they were separately detained by government forces before their exams were due and later released.

   

On Tuesday, Ubaid Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Mollu Chitragam village was allegedly picked up from his home during a predawn raid by personnel of Special Operation Group of the state police stationed at Imamsahab. 

Bhat, according to his family, had to appear for the class 12th test for Environmental Science on Wednesday which he could not take due to his confinement.

“He was released late on Wednesday” said a relative of Bhat.

His family demands an immediate make-up opportunity for their son to write the missed exams.

An officer at SOG camp Imamshabib told Greater Kashmir that they had detained no one from the village.

Zeefam Fayaz, another standard 12 student from the neighbouring Gunddarvesh village was also released on Thursday evening. He has missed appearing for exams to two papers.

Fayaz’s family alleged  he was detained by government forces along with few other youth during an overnight raid on October 24.

“My son (Fayaz) missed examination for two subjects, Education and Environmental Science, which were slated for October 29 and 31,” said Fayaz Ahmad Dar.

Dar also demanded a make-up examination for the two papers his son missed.
