Drone airdropped arms, ammunition in Akhnoor: Police

Security forces recovered two AK47 assault rifles and other ammunition in Sohal Khad area in Akhnoor, police said.

Police said the arms and ammunitions had been “airdropped by Pakistan from a drone last night”. The place is approximately 12 km from the border with Pakistan in Akhnoor.

“The sound of the drone was heard during the intervening night of September 21 and 22 but the drone was not visible,” police said.

A massive search operation was launched in Sohal Khad, Shamshan Ghat, Punnu Chowk, and other places of Akhnoor by security forces and J&K Police.

As the searches were on, police said, the security forces during late night hours recovered “2 AK47 assault rifles, 3 AK47 magazines, 90 rounds of 7.62 MM ammunition, 1 star pistol, 2 pistol magazines, 14 rounds of 9 MM ammunition (Star Pistol), and packaging stuff containing blue thermacol wrapped in adhesive tape with wooden attached fittings (fittings 2 packets), synthetic and parachute thread 2 rolls, about 300 meters in length each, (in two consignments)”.

Police claimed the arms and ammunition were “dropped by the militants to carry out militancy related activities in J&K”.

“300 meter thread was seized from two consignments containing two AK47 rifles. During investigation, we have found that the militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed had planned this (operation) to send arms and ammunition to their active militants in Kashmir,” SSP Jammu, Shridhar Patel told local media.
