Facilities at GMC Baramulla reviewed

Baramulla, Feb 10: The Administrative Secretary of Health and Medical Education, Dr Syed Abid Rashid, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa, conducted a comprehensive visit to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla on Saturday.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the existing facilities and engage with patients and stakeholders to address concerns and improve healthcare services.

   

The administrative official m inspected various sections of the associated hospital, including the gynaecology department, emergency services, and other critical facilities. He visited each ward and interacted with patients, seeking their feedback on the quality of healthcare provided.

During the visit, the administrative secretary held discussions with stakeholders, including the journalists, common people and the Traders Federation, to gather insights into the people’s expectations and concerns regarding the medical facilities at GMC Baramulla.

Several stakeholders raised crucial demands during the interactions, stressing the need for enhancements such as the establishment of a paediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase in human resources, and the appointment of specialised doctors.

The delegation also advocated for expanding the hospital’s land by merging the District Industries Centre (DIC) land with the hospital premises.

In response to these demands, Dr Syed Abid Rashid, assured the stakeholders that their concerns would be taken seriously. He acknowledged the importance of Baramulla as an aspirational district and highlighted the hospital’s critical role, which caters not only to the Baramulla district but also to neighbouring districts which include Kupwara and Bandipora.

The Administrative Secretary while talking to reporters, highlighted the significance of GMC Baramulla, and said, “Baramulla district is an important aspirational district. During my tour to the GMC Baramulla, I talked to doctors, paramedics, and patients to improve patient care.”

He said the GMC Baramulla is a major health facility centre across north Kashmir, drawing students from across India for their medical education. He recognised the need for human resource development and infrastructure augmentation, pledging efforts to address the identified issues and enhance the overall capabilities of GMC Baramulla.

“In coming time, GMC Baramulla will emerge as a major health institution, providing world-class health facilities. There is a need for human resource development and augmentation of infrastructure. I noted the issues here, especially after meeting with the patients, and all other stakeholders,” he said.
