Freezing temperatures continue in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 23: While another feeble Western Disturbance is hitting J&K on Saturday evening, the freezing night temperature continued unabated and stayed several degrees Celsius below normal in Kashmir with Gulmarg recording a low of minus 10 degrees Celsius and Pahalgam minus 9.5 degrees Celsius on Friday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said that a fresh Western Disturbance was likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from Saturday night.

   

They said that the disturbance was essentially low-pressure systems that originate over the Mediterranean Sea and move eastwards while gathering moisture, which then gets dumped over North India.

Under the influence of this system, the IMD officials said there were likely chances of scattered rainfall and snowfall of light to moderate intensity over the Western Himalayan territories of Jammu and Kashmir.

They said that from March 1 to 3, there was a possibility of light to moderate rain and snow at the scattered to fairly widespread places.

The MeT officials said that that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius and it was below normal by 1 degree Celsius for this time of the year.

Gulmarg ski resort recorded a low of minus 10 degrees Celsius against minus 10.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.

The temperature was below normal by 2.8 degrees Celsius.

Pahalgam health resort recorded a low of minus 9.5 degrees Celsius against minus 8.6 degrees Celsius on the previous night and it was 5.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius against minus 4.4 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 3.7 degrees Celsius below normal.

Kokernag resort recorded a minimum of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius against minus 5.4 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was below normal by 2.8 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara town recorded a low of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius against minus 3.1 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 4.4 degrees Celsius below normal.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 6 degrees Celsius and it was below normal by 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Banihal recorded a low of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, Batote 0.2 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah minus 2.4 degrees Celsius.
