Government departments, commercial establishments owe Rs 19,500 cr to PDD

The J&K government on Friday informed the Lower House that an amount of Rs 19577 crore on account of power tariff was pending with commercial establishments and government departments in the twin capital cities of the state till November 2017.

This was revealed in a written reply on power minister to a query raised by MLA Gagan Bhagat in the Legislative Assembly.

   

In his written reply, the power minister said an amount of Rs 18,394 crore of power tariff was pending with government departments and commercial establishments in Srinagar city while as an amount of Rs 505.41 crore was pending in Jammu city.

As per the government figures pending liability with hospitals and higher education department including degree colleges in Jammu city was Rs 29.55 crore and Rs 8.13 crore respectively.

“The liability with commercial establishments is Rs 36.73 crore in Jammu city,” the government reply revealed.

Similarly in Srinagar city the liability of power tariff with commercial establishments was Rs 133.82 crore while as Rs 49.80 crore was with hospitals including health and medical education department. 

“The liability higher education department is Rs 54.16 crore,” the reply states.

The government figures also revealed that Rs 15.83 crore liability of power tariff was pending with various central departments in Jammu city while as Rs 4.57 crore was pending with school education department.

“Hospitality and protocol department owes Rs 5.91 crore while as housing and urban development department owes Rs 1.85 crore to the power department as unpaid power tariff,” the government in its reply said. 

Power Development Corporation and PDD department of Jammu itself figure among defaulters and have Rs 2.39 crore as unpaid electricity dues while as revenue and relief department owes Rs 32.61.

SRTC and Technical education department in Jammu city have liability of unpaid electricity dues worth Rs 2.39 crore and Rs 2.11 crore respectively.

The government reply has revealed that Home department in Jammu Rs 4 crore while as in Srinagar it has a liability of Rs 52.01 crore towards power development.

The public health engineering and irrigation & flood control owes Rs 415.12 crore to the power department in Srinagar and Jammu district while revenue and relief departments owes Rs 34.62 crore to the department as unpaid electricity dues.
