Describing Rural development department (RDD) pivotal for turning the dream of a prosperous Naya kashmir into reality, chairman PDF and MLA Khansahib Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen today stressed to bring transparency and accountability in its overall functioning.
Participating in debate on demand of grants for RDD in Legislative Assembly today, Yaseen alleged large scale bunglings, nepotism and lawlessness in rural development blocks and demanded stringent measures to check the prevailing malpractices in the department.
“Liability worth crores of rupees under MGNREGA is pending since last two years which has made condition of rural workers miserable. Same is the case with IAY payments all over the state due to which poor BPL people are suffering from many years,” he said.
Yaseen while underscoring the importance of Panchayti Raj institutions in transformation of rural economy, urged for ensuring peace and congenial security scenario at ground level for the proposed Panchayat elections.
“Otherwise this exercise may become the cause of another cycle of violence and bloodshed in the state. We are not against Panchayat elections, but these should not become the cause of another bloodshed,” Hakeem cautioned.
