High Court judges hear cases via video conferencing

Amid the ongoing lockdown to prevent spread of the coronavirus, the High Court is taking up exceptionally urgent matters for hearing through virtual mode.

One such case was taken up for hearing on Saturday. Eventhough it was originally registered in Srinagar wing of the High Court, thejudge heard it through video call from Jammu with his counsel sitting at hishome in Srinagar.

   

After hearing the matter, the Court issued notice to otherside and posted the case for hearing on April 7.

To carry out the proceedings via video conferencing andcalls, the judges are hearing cases from their residences and the lawyers arearguing from their homes or offices, a senior officer of the High Court said.The protocol governing the hearing of the cases through virtual mode hasalready been issued by the High Court.

It requires the Registrar Judicial, after seeking ordersfrom the Chief Justice, to make necessary arrangements for hearing ofexceptionally urgent cases from the residence of the judges through virtualmode only.
