Intelligence agencies sound ‘red alert’ for JK

Fearing possible attempt of ‘infiltration’ and ‘big strike’ by militants ahead of R-Day, the Indian intelligence agencies have sounded ‘red alert’ for Jammu and Kashmir.

The alert was sounded after intelligence agencies said that a group of militants may have entered India to target the security personnel and civilians ahead of country’s 69th republic day.

“A group of three to four militants was seen camping across the border at a village in Pakistan, near a border out post (BoP) on IB,” a police source quoting communication with officials of intelligence agencies informed Greater Kashmir.

The source said that Pakistan “is pushing this group (militants) to infiltrate and create disturbance.

“The group trying hard to enter through IB or parts of LoC may be planning to carry out a big strike on the security installations,” the source said. He said that after the warning from the agencies a meeting of the top security brass of Jammu was held following which all SSPs were instructed to heighten vigil in their districts. During the meeting stress was also give on aggressive night patrol to check every vehicle entering in the city.

Following the alert security has been beefed up in the entire Jammu region, particularly the five border districts Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch.

Police presence and patrolling around important landmarks of the city including temples, popular markets, iconic buildings and other places like railway station, airport, bus stands, etc., have been stepped up.

“The reason behind (current) ceasefire violations and Pakistan shelling is to help infiltrate militants from across the border,” IG, Jammu Zone, SD Singh Jamwal said.

“After the inputs from the intelligence agencies, the police have beefed up the security in border belts and increased round-the-clock vigil,” he said.
