Internet blockade in Kashmir ahead of Modi’s visit

Mobile Internet service was snapped across Kashmir valley in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Both the high and low-speed mobile Internet services were snapped shortly after midnight. However, low speed service was restored on some networks today morning.

A government official said the service was suspended “as a precautionary measure” in the wake of Modi’s visit to the valley. He said that security concerns forced the government to snap the Internet.

Security has been heightened across the Valley, especially in summer capital Srinagar where Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a ring road project.
