Locals accuse army of vandalizing property, thrashing youth in Shopian village

The residents of Kundalan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district alleged that the government forces thrashed a local and ransacked several houses late Sunday night.

A resident said forces’ personnel surfaced in the Kundalan village in the dead of night and vandalised their houses.

He alleged a youth, Zahoor Ahmad Dar, who tried to resist the forces’ personnel, was beaten to pulp.

Dar was immediately rushed to District Hospital Shopian from where he was reportedly referred to SMHS, Srinagar for specialized treatment.

Meanwhile, an army spokesman, according to GNS news agency, refuted the allegations. “Army didn’t beat anyone. The allegations leveled are baseless,” he was quoted as having said by the GNS.
