Mass arrest of Jamaat, JAH members unwise misadventure: Veeri

South Kashmir Zonal President  National Conference and former MLC Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri has demanded immediate release of Jamat e Islami & Jameat Ahali Hadees activists to mitigate what he called “damage caused by this undemocratic misadventure.”

In a statement Dr Veeri termed these arrests “arbitrary” and said, ” it does not augur well for the state.”

“Constitution of India guarantees freedom of expression to every citizen of  the country as a fundamental right. People having different opinion have every right to propagate their ideology & can’t be imprisoned with up & down in the security environment which is otherwise responsibility of those agencies who shift the blame,” he said.

Among all arrested people, majority of them are law abiding people and need due respect and right to dignity.  “Our history is replete with examples that such measures neither worked in past nor will it yield anything now. It is high time that authorities refrain from such arrests to prevent further alienation and anger in the minds of common Kashmiris,” he said, “Arrest of Jamat-e-Islami & Jamiat Ahle Hadith  members on the basis of ideology and contradictory viewpoint does not hold well with the idea of democratic and secular India.”

“By arresting the cadres of JEI & JeH administration has undermined the services rendered by this highly disciplined organisation from past 50 years for social as well religious construction of our state which is highly condemnable on part of the administration,” he added.
