Overloading goes unabated on PoonchMandi roads

Even after the tragic bus accident at Palera village, which left 13 people dead and 15 others injured, overloading in passenger vehicles is going on unabated on the roads of PoonchMandi.

The residents of Mandi area on Tuesday also called for increasing the strength of traffic police on the roads and to initiate stern action against the violators.

“A large number of passenger vehicles, plying on the interior routes of Mandi tehsil, can be seen overloaded with passengers. Not only is overloading a violation, but it also poses severe risk to commuters as well as pedestrians. The traffic police needs to pay concern and stop the menace, before something untoward happens again,” Mohammad Jahangir and Aijaz Ahmed, residents of Mandi, said.

While talking to Greater Kashmir, a traffic cop said, “We are trying our best to check overloading, along with other violations. A large number of violators are being booked every day. Besides, a number of vehicles are being seized as well.”
