PUF evokes mixed reaction in Kashmir

The pre-poll alliance formed by Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) headed by Shah Faesal and Engineer Rashid-led Awami Ittehad Party, evoked mixed reaction from political parties in Kashmir.

While the National Conference (NC) called the alliance whichhas been named as People’s United Front (PUF) as “another step to divide votesin Kashmir”, the People’s Democratic Party did not find anything “bad about it”saying “more good people should come into politics.”

Er Rashid and Faesal on Tuesday said that they have decidedto enter into a pre-poll alliance “because of the prevailing politicalsituation in the state”.

NC provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani told GreaterKashmir that “this is another step to divide votes in Kashmir, and there isnothing new about it.”

Wani said that people of Kashmir won’t trust this.

“Only the NC is acceptable to the people of the state andthey will vote for it,” he said.

However, senior PDP leader and former minister, Naeem Akhtertermed the alliance as “good”.

“There is nothing bad about it, and more good people shouldcome into politics,” Akhter told Greater Kashmir.

He said that Er Rashid is “clearer about politics now”.

“The condition of plebiscite has been dropped in alliance. Most of elements of PDP’s vision have been incorporated in the alliance,” hesaid.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee vice presidentG N Monga said the alliance was aimed to divide the vote. “People will decidein coming election and they are best judges,” he said.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) J&K secretary,Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami welcomed the alliance terming it a “good move.”
