Dear Editor,
This refers to the alarming increase in accidents. It was 13th Feb. 2008 when after finishing my paper I left form the University Campus, Hazratbal, Srinagar. I was waiting for bus near Moulana Rumi Gate. A girl opposite to me was about to cross the road, suddenly a White Santro Car zooming past at a break neck speed came and hit the girl so powerfully. She lost her consciousness and fell down on the road. I was breathless to see this event. The guilty escaped from the scene and we even fail to note the number of the car. It was so tragic to see the girl bleeding through her nose.
Flying squad vehicle was standing nearby. They followed the White Santro Car but could not succeed. At least they should have informed the next check-post  to stop the fast running car, but it could not be done. Anyways passengers on the roadside waiting for bus and some auto drivers took this seriously injured girl to the hospital.
This speaks of our apathy and callous attitude. We have lost the sense of fellow feeling. This one incident must make us think and reshape our behavior for better.
