Sec 144 clamped in Shopian district

DistrictMagistrate Shopian on Thursday promulgated Sec 144 in the district from May 3for a period of one month “to maintain peace and tranquility in public life andto avoid danger to life and property”.

Accordingto the order, no assembly or congregation shall be allowed without the priorpermission of District Magistrate, Shopian, Duty Magistrates subject to priorNo Objection Certificate from the concerned SP and SHOs of respectivejurisdiction. Furthermore, no person other than a member of armed force,Police, Magistrate or a public servant duly authorized and on duty shall carryin public fire arms or an article capable of being used as weapon of offence.

   

The order further read thatno person shall use loudspeaker or any other amplifying sound for making aspeech or any announcement for any other purpose whether from a moving vehiclesor otherwise except with prior permission of District Magistrate, Shopian.

However,the restriction imposed on movement of people, congregations, assembly ofpeople shall not apply to holding of prayers in mosques and other places ofworship or burial rites, ceremonies. In case of area notified for applicationof restrictions under Sec 144 Cr.P.C, the duty Magistrates should be approachedin order to prevent misconception about such occasions and ceremonies by lawenforcement agencies.The Senior Superintendent of police Shopian shallenforce the restrictions by making adequate deployments, wherever required, theorder read.
