SNOW AFTERMATH: Son takes father on shoulders for 2 kms for dialysis in Budgam

Majid Shah, a businessman from Nowgam had to carry his father, a kidney patient, for two kilometers on his shoulders on Saturday to a private hospital for dialysis, after his car got stuck in the snow in Budgam.

“My father could not skip his dialysis so I had to take him to the hospital,” he said.

Shah said: “On the highway the vehicles were stranded for a couple of minutes as the authorities had failed to clear the snow. I, somehow managed to reach Budgam, but then the car got stuck in the snow and I had to carry him for two kilometers on my shoulders to reach the hospital.”

The Kashmir Valley on Friday/Saturday received this year’s heaviest snowfall.

“The authorities should have cleared the roads early in the morning given that some patients necessarily need to be taken to the hospitals,” he said.

Dr Sehri Asgar, Deputy Commissioner, Budgam said, “We have cleared the snow from all the ‘priority as well less priority areas’. We are ahead of the schedule. As far as the hospital is concerned, we didn’t receive any complaint of any inconvenience to the patients, and we have also cleared the road there as well.”
