This refers to the news report "Grounded in the curbs, inadequacies: Srinagar International Airport" by Naseer A Ganai. It is disheartening to learn that till date the Srinagar International Airport has not been renamed as Sheikh Ul Aalam International Airport, after the name of great Sufi saint of Kashmir Sheikh Noor Ud Din Wali (R.A). Why the higher authorities are not serious about this. Moreover, it is very sad that handbags are not allowed in the plane; such illogical rules are seen nowhere. Why only Srinagar Airport is being made a target. This will surely have an adverse effect on our tourism and indirectly affect the income of state. International airports all over India are having state of the art facilities of transport but at our Srinagar Airport we are having a small fleet of cabs which levy huge amounts up to Lal Chowk and Batmaloo, not to talk about other destinations. Also we are having SRTC buses which ply on this route after hours and have no specific time schedule. Why is the state government not taking suitable measures to address these issues? Are they not willing to do so, or they have no role in these matters?
