A prominent businessman from Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’sBaramulla district, Shabir Ahmad Mir on Friday joined the Peoples DemocraticParty (PDP).
Mir, who was associated withNational Conference (NC), resigned from the party earlier this week.
He joined the PDP in presence of its president Mehbooba Mufti ather Fairview residence in Gupkar, Srinagar.
Addressing the gathering on theoccasion, Mehbooba said Mir would be the party’s candidate for Tangmargconstituency in upcoming assembly elections.
The State of Jammu and Kashmir is presently under president’srule.
While the regional parties haveappealed the central government to hold the assembly elections in the state,the Election Commission of India has not announced the dates as of yet.
The delay in announcement ofassembly elections has drawn severe criticism from all the mainstream partiesin the state.
