Jammu, Dec 16: To commemorate Vijay Diwas 2023, Tiger Division of Indian army Saturday organised a solemn wreath laying ceremony at Balidan Stambh War Memorial, Jammu.
Maj Gen Gaurav Gautam, General Officer Commanding Tiger Division laid wreath at ‘Eternal Flame’ of the Balidan Stambh war memorial to pay rich tributes to the fallen heroes who made supreme sacrifice for the nation, said PRO Defence Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
“On December 16, 1971, Lt Gen Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the Chief martial law administrator of East Pakistan and the commander of Pakistan Army located in the then East Pakistan, signed the Instrument of surrender,” Lt Col Bartwal recalled while delineating the significance of Vijay Diwas.
“Balidan Stambh (Tower of Sacrifice) was built in year 2009 to commemorate the sacrifice of war heroes who gave their life while serving the motherland on soils of Jammu and Kashmir in various battles and counter insurgency operations since Independence,” he said.
