Yousuf Tarigami pitches for shared sovereignty for J&K

CPI (M) state general secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday asked for “370 plus position” for Jammu and Kashmir, explain it as “shared sovereignty.”

“Kashmir needs 370 plus position where we can have shared sovereignty. They (Centre) will have sovereignty over three subjects and the state will have sovereignty over the rest,” he said at a party function here.

“Everyone here demands right to life with dignity,” Tarigami said.

Tarigami also called for making LoC softer and allowing the people to cross the borders.

“All our body parts have been broken down and no veins are left now. How do they claim us to be their atoot ang and jugular vein?” he asked.

“I would like to tell those leaders that you have constructed only one national highway that leads to Nagpur,” Tarigami said, taking a dig at PDP leaders for advocating opening up of routes to connect Kashmir with Central Asia. “We have to block this highway.”

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said that India should make use of Jammu and Kashmir to reach markets in Central Asia.

Tarigami said that ‘after breaking the legs and arms of the youth, the government granted amnesty to them and announced the withdrawal of cases against them.’

“Do you know why? Because the youth are being booked every day. There is such huge number of cases against youth that there is no space in day-books of police to file fresh cases now. So they thought to withdraw some old cases.”

On November 23, 2017, J&K government announced amnesty to alleged first-time stone pelters, providing them “an opportunity to rebuild their lives.”

He said the BJP government has closed all the doors for Kashmiris. “In the name of cow vigilantes and love jihad, Kashmiri students are beaten outside the state, dragged out of the hostels and mercilessly beaten. A Kashmiri labourer is afraid of going outside,” he said.

“Only yesterday RSS chief Mohan Baghwat said Kashmiris only understood the language of power. We want to tell Mohan Baghwat that Kashmiris will prefer to die, but won’t be cowed down by these threats.”

Appealing the people of Jammu not to fall prey to elements who want to divide people in the name of religion and region, he asked, “Who are the people trying to shield the rapists and murderers of 8-year-old Ashifa of Kathua?”

“It is the most shameful act and against human values that using the tricolour, some fringe elements in Jammu took a rally in support of the accused. Two senior BJP ministers participated in this rally,” he said, questioning the silence of Mehbooba Mufti over the rally.

“If she could sack Haseeb Drabu sahib, why is she afraid of taking any action against these two ministers?”

Addressing CPI (M) national general secretary Sitaram Yechaury, he said, “Please tell the people of the country about the sufferings of Kashmirs. We are not making any pleas to any king to award us, but what every Kashmiri wants is life with dignity. Kashmiris don’t want bullets, ammunition and graveyards but the right to live a dignified life.”
