A motorcyclist and his pillion rider were injured after being shot at allegedly by soldiers in Pulwama district on Saturday evening.
A police official said that Shahid Farooq and Aqib AhmadDar, residents of Pirchoo and Ashminder villages of the district respectively,were fired upon allegedly by soldiers of55 RR in Bandzoo village after they jumped a check post.
The official said the check post was set up to friskcommuters barely hours after a grenade attack on a CRPF bunker took place atWashbugh, Pulwama.
"The soldiers signalled the motorcyclists to stop but theydid not and tried to whizz past. The soldiers then fired at them," the officialsaid. The duo was taken to Pulwama hospital where doctors referred them to SMHSHospital in Srinagar.
A health official at Pulwama told Greater Kashmir that theyouth had suffered firearm injuries in their abdomen and hips.
Defence spokesperson Rajesh Kalia said, "We are ascertainingdetails about the incident."
Door-to-door searches in Tral:
Government forces on Saturday evening launched acordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Nazneenpora village of south Kashmir'sTral.
A police official said the operation was launched by forcesfollowing inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
The door-to-door searches were going on when last reportscame in.
