A day before crucial talks between Director General of Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers in New Delhi, Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged heavy fire along the Line of Control in Nowgam Sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said.
Two BSF men were reportedly injured in the cross-border firing, they said.
"At 11.15 am, Pakistani troops fired indiscriminately towards us in Nowgam sector on the LoC resulting in the injuries to two of our men. Both of them are out of danger," a BSF spokesman said.
Talks between DG BSF D Pathak and DG (Punjab-Pakistan) Major General Umar Farooq Burki are scheduled on Thursday in New Delhi. Pathak is leading a 23-member delegation, sources said.
Burki, they said, has also already arrived in New Delhi along with a team of Pakistan rangers.
The DG- level talks assume significance given that forces on both sides have been engaged in heavy exchange of fire over the past few months. These talks between India and Pakistan will be held under the shadow of failed National Security Advisor-level talks between the two countries recently.
