Three persons were injured after CRPF personnel resorted to firing in this south Kashmir town on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Tuesday evening, witnesses said.
"There was a heavy traffic jam on the highway at Awantipora and some civilians were trying to clear the movement of vehicles. In the meantime, a CRPF vehicle came and fired at the civilians who were regulating the traffic," said a group of locals.
Three persons sustained injuries in the CRPF action and were immediately shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
They were identified as Junaid Ahmad, Parvez Ahmad and Danish Javed.
Danish, a class 11th student of Muniward village of Anantnag district, is son of Javed Dar, a senior photojournalist working with Xinhua and Mail Today.
"One of the injured had bullet injury while two others have shrapnel injuries," said Casualty Medical Officer, SMHS hospital Srinagar.
He said earlier two pellet injury cases were received from Dogripora village too.
PRO, CRPF, Ashish Kumar Jha said he is "trying to ascertain the facts."
