Police have arrested three people on charges of attempt to murder after they, along with three others, attacked a Kashmir-based based oil tanker driver on Srinagar-Jammu highway last evening.
As per sources, police have booked six people under Section 307 of RPC (Attempt to murder) in connection with fatal attack on the oil tanker driver.
According to police, the Kashmir-bound oil tanker (JK01W-7638) driver Farooq Ahmed of Keegam Shopian District was injured when a group of miscreants attacked him near Nandini Tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu Highway "for overtaking."
After thrashing the driver, all the attackers managed to escape and left the driver injured. Seeing the driver injured, police and CRPF men rushed him to hospital for treatment, sources said.
SHO Jajjhar Kotli, Ravinder Singh said they have identified all the six attackers. "Of these, three people have been arrested and two cars in which they were travelling have also been seized," he said.
Police identified the arrested persons as Sanjeev Kumar of Bhambla, District Reasi, Rajinder Singh of Kun Dhroyian Katra and Sumit Sharma of Katra while search is on to nab other three accused including Surinder Singh of Kun Dhroyian Katra, Ranjit Singh of Bhambla Reasi, and Vikram Singh of Kun Dhroyian.
Condition of driver is said to be stable as, according to police, he was immediately hospitalized.
