J&K's former Chief Secretary Noor Muhammad passed away at his Rawalpora residence here on Tuesday.  

Noor Muhammad was born on 25th December 1925 and appointed to IAS in January 1958. He served the State Government in various capacities including Administrative Secretary of Agriculture, Finance, Planning and Development departments. He was Chief Secretary of the State from 1st May 1980 to 31st December 1983.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed grief over the sad demise of Noor Muhammad and described him as an excellent 

officer who rose to become the state's Chief Secretary. "His contribution in development of J&K will be always remembered," she said, conveying her sympathies to the bereaved family while praying for peace to the departed soul.

National Conference's patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah condoled the demise of Noor Muhammad and prayed for peace to the departed soul. 

Conveying their deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the Abdullahs highlighted the contributions of late Noor Muhammad while serving the State in various senior capacities and said his contributions would be remembered for a long time to come.

National Conference's General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Provincial President Nasir AslamWani, NC Spokesperson JunaidAzimMattu and other party leaders and legislators also paid rich tributes to the former Chief Secretary.

Meanwhile, J&K's Chief Secretary, B R Sharma condoled the demise of Noor Muhammad and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. 

"Immediately after hearing the news about the demise of Noor Muhammad, a condolence meeting was convened at the Civil Secretariat in which Chief Secretary, B R Sharma and administrative Secretaries participated," an official spokesman said.      

Recalling the contribution of the deceased, the Chief Secretary said he was held in very high esteem as a Civil Servant and was among those who have left an everlasting impression in administration.          

A two-minute silence was also observed in the condolence meeting to pay homage to the departed soul.

Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar also condoled the demise of Noor Muhammad. Akhtar said Noor Muhammad was one of the brightest and intelligent officers in J&K who achieved many milestones in his career at a very young age.

"I have got the privilege of working with Noor Sahab in my formative years as an officer in the state government," he said. "I was highly impressed with the intellect and the administrative skills of the former Chief Secretary."

Akhtar has expressed condolences with Shafaat Noor, who himself is a retired IAS officer and eldest son of Noor Muhammad. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh expressed grief over the demise of Noor Muhammad.
