The Army on Sunday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district by killing three militants there. "In wee hours of Sunday, suspicious movement was spotted in Tangdhar, some 60 kms from Kupwara. On being challenged by army, the militants opened fire which was retaliated, triggering an encounter which continued for more than an hour," an army official said.

Three militants were killed in the gunfight and their bodies are being handed over to locals for the last rites, he said.

Army's Srinagar-based spokesman Colonel N N Joshi said Army foiled an infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector. "Three militants have been killed in the operation," he told Greater Kashmir.

Meanwhile, a Kupwara-based army officer claimed that the slain militants were involved in an attack on a BSF post in Tangdhar sector on August 19 in which three personnel of the force were injured.
