Ruling PDP legislator and former minister Altaf Bukhari Tuesday blamed the government for "selling poison instead of apple concentrate at HPMC Sopore where apple juice processed three years back is being supplied to the market."
"The government is selling three-year-old apple juice processed from its apple juice concentration plant although shelf life of apple concentrate is only 18 months," he said in the Assembly.
"Selling poisonous juice is non-bailable offence. Who will be responsible if any untoward incident happens," he said, adding, "Where's the health inspector and why is he overlooking that government itself is selling three-year-old poisonous products in the market," the PDP legislator from Amira Kadal said.
Deputy Speaker Nazir Gurezi asked the government to present a report in the House regarding the issue.
Bukhari, while continuing his speech during discussion on Grants for Agriculture department, said that the government is lying when it says they are testing the pesticides being supplied to farmers.
"I want to inform the House that testing laboratories of the government can only test 20 percent products," he said adding, "I tried several times to take up the matter with the successive governments but nothing has been done in this regard which is unfortunate."
"Tree spray oil was banned by GoI. They brought it under the insecticide control. However in our state some people in Secretariat give permission to some and disallow others from selling it."
