The detention of a minor from old Srinagar city under the Public Safety Act resonated yet again in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday when MLA Langate Er. Rashid trooped into the Well and accused the police of summoning headmaster of a Government school for issuing date of birth certificate of the detainee.
Rashid was marshaled out of the Assembly on the directions of Speaker Kavinder Gupta after NC accused him of "enacting drama in the House."
As soon as proceedings of the House began, Rashid stood up and entered into the Well. "Why the Headmaster was summoned to police station? He was made to sit in the police station for whole day. What the hell you are doing?" Rashid shouted.
The legislator, who has been repeatedly taking up the minor's arrest in the Assembly, yesterday produced Sahil's birth certificate in the House.
"It is hereby certified that Sahil Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik was the student of our institute and his date of birth as per the school records vide admission no: 381 is 10-03-2002," reads the certificate issued by Government Middle School Pamposh Colony Palpora, Eidgah Srinagar.
As Rashid continued protests in the Well, PDP Minister Abdul Haq Khan accused him of using unparliamentarily language in the House.
Rashid sought to know from Government why the minor was not released.
"Why he is not released? I have submitted his school record," Rashid said in presence of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in the House.
Unexpectedly, Rashid got support from PDP MLA Javaid Mustafa Mir even as opposition targeted him for "disrupting proceedings of the House."
"If he has raised some issue, Government should respond to him," Mir demanded.
NC's Muhammad Akbar Lone accused him of disrupting proceedings of the House. "He is enacting drama to get publicity," Lone said.
As Rashid continued with protests, Speaker Kavinder Gupta ordered Marshals to evict him from the House. Acting on the directions, the Marshals took him out.
