Summer vacation in schools, colleges from July 6

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered summer vacations for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, from July 6 (Thursday) to July 15 (Saturday) in Kashmir region and Jammu’s winter zone.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered summer vacations for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, from July 6 (Thursday) to July 15 (Saturday) in Kashmir region and Jammu's winter zone.

As per order issued by Secretary, School Education department, Farooq Ahmad Shah, all government schools as well as private recognized schools up to the level of Higher Secondary functioning in Kashmir and winter zone of Jammu region would remain closed from July 6 to July 15 on account of summer vacations.

"Any default on part of private institutions in observance of the calendar of summer vacations so authorized shall attract action under rules," the order read.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department (HED) also ordered closure of all Degree Colleges in Kashmir as well Jammu winter zone for summer vacations from July 6 to July 15.

"All Government Degree Colleges of Kashmir division and winter zone Jammu division shall observe summer vacations with effect from July 6 to July 15, 2017," reads the order issued by Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department Asgar Samoon.

Meanwhile, sources said the summer vacations would be announced by University of Kashmir (KU) from July 7 to July 15. "The issue is being discussed in administration and order may be issued in a day or two," a top KU official said.

However, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Prof Mushtaq Siddiqui ruled out any announcement of summer vacation for the students.

He said the varsity would be functional on July 6 or 7 but would close the institution on July 8 (Saturday).

"We had decided to have six days week but we will close IUST on July 8 (Saturday). Rest we will decide accordingly. We won't have organized vacations," Prof Siddiqui said.
