Restrictions in Srinagar areas today: DM

In the wake of killing of a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Abu Ismail at Aribagh, Nowgam on Srinagar outskirts on Thursday, the government decided to impose restrictions in parts of Downtown Srinagar and also ordered closure of educational institutions in “sensitive” districts on Friday.

According to district magistrate Srinagar, restrictions under section 144 of CrPC will remain in force under jurisdiction of police stations Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safakadal in district Srinagar on September 15 (Friday) as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.

The district magistrate Srinagar also said that teaching activity will remain suspended in all colleges and schools in Srinagar district on September 15 (Friday).

The district administration Ganderbal said that all higher secondary schools and colleges in the district will remain closed on Friday as a precautionary measure.

A similar order was issued for Baramulla district. "Classwork in degree college boys Sopore, degree college for women Sopore, government boys' higher secondary school Sopore and government higher secondary school Sopore shall remain closed on September 15," additional deputy commissioner Sopore said. Meanwhile, according to district magistrate Baramulla, class work in degree college boys Baramulla, degree college Women Baramulla, government boys higher secondary school Baramulla, degree college Pattan, and government higher secondary school Pattan shall remain suspended on September 15.

According to district magistrate Anantnag, class work in all colleges and higher secondary schools of the district shall remain suspended on Friday. However all other schools shall function normally.

Officials said that all higher secondary schools and colleges will remain closed in Pulwama and Shopian districts on Friday. Colleges and schools in Kupwara and Kulgam shall remain open, officials said.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest, a Hurriyat spokesman said. GKNN
