Hundreds of people on Sunday afternoon offered funeral prayers in absentia for six militants killed in a gunfight here on Saturday.

A witness said that after offering the funeral prayers, people marched from Hajinchowk towards the gunfight site in Chandergair amid freedom sloganeering. He said that scores of women also participated in the protest rally.

A source said that five masked gunmen also appeared in the protest rally and marched with the locals. "Later, they disappeared near the Hajin bridge," he said.

Meanwhile, areas in Bandipora and Hajin town observed a complete shutdown to mourn the militant killings.

Internet services were snapped in the district after the gunfight broke out. The services were restored on Sunday evening.

Six militants including nephew of Zaki-ur-RehmanLakhvi and two top LeT commanders were killed in the gunfight. An IAF Garud commando was also killed while an army soldier of 13 RR Unit was injured.
