Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday underlined the need to curtail raising concrete structures at tourist destinations and develop each tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir as per its own specialty.
Chairing a joint meeting of Yousmarg, Wullar and Manasbal and Lolab, Bangus and Drangyari tourism development authorities here, the Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to raise as minimum concrete structures at tourist spots as possible and develop each destination vis-à-vis its own specialty, an official spokesman said.
She asked them to ensure that the infrastructure raised is in sync with the local culture and architectural pattern.
Directing the Tourism department and its allied agencies to focus on development of catchment areas while developing facilities at tourist spots, Mehbooba said that this would enable the local people to become equal partners and stakeholders in promoting tourism across the state.
Mehbooba directed the CEOs of development authorities to devise packages, particularly for school students, adventure-lovers and youth from within and outside the state, so that the footfall gets a steady increase. She also directed clearing of encroachments at tourist spots with full force and take tough measures to check pollution there, the spokesman said.
She also directed promoting pilgrim tourism at these places.
Terming Bungus as a world-class tourist destination, the Chief Minister directed maintaining its unadulterated aesthetic appeal. For this, she sought inputs from a good consultancy before going ahead with any major developmental initiatives there, the spokesman said.
She also directed preservation of ancestral place of Hazrat Maulana Anwar Shah Kashmiri (RA) as a heritage house and sought a conservation project of a spring at Trehgam for her approval. She also directed transfer of all assets developed at the tourist destination to the Tourism department for their better upkeep.
