Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday nominated senior PDP leader and former MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat as vice-chairman of the J&K Muslim Wakf Board.
A notification, issued on behalf of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti by the Law department, read: "In pursuance of the powers vested in me under section 6 of the J&K Muslim Specified Wakf and Specified Properties Act, 2014, I, Mehbooba Mufti , chairperson, board of directors nominate Nizamuddin Bhat as member of the Board."
"Further in terms of proviso to sub-section(1) of section 9 of the said Act, I nominate Nizamuddin Bhat, member of the Board as vice chairman of the Board till the vice chairman is elected formally," the notification added.
Bhat, who is PDP's state general secretary, won the 2008 election from Bandipora assembly segment but lost to Usman Majeed of Congress in 2014.
He was also elected MLC on urban local bodies quota during the PDP-Congress government.
