An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected militants near Pampore railway station in Kandizal-Tengpora village here in this district was defused by paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday.
An official said the IED fitted inside a three-litre pressure cooker was recovered at new bypass near Kandizal-Tangpora village, opposite Pampore railway station, on Wednesday early morning by the CRPF 110 BN.
He said a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of the CRPF defused the IED, without causing any damage. "A major tragedy was averted by the CRPF troopers," he added.
The official said the security has been beefed up across police district Awantipora and patrols intensified to prevent any militant attacks around January 26.
