Six Central Reserve Police Force personnel were injured after unknown persons lobbed a grenade during a cordon-and-search operation in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on Saturday, the police said. A police official said a blast occurred when government forces were retreating from HassanporaArwani village after clashes in the area during the CASO this evening.
Six CRPF personnel were injured in the blast, the official said, adding that the injured personnel who had sustained splinter injuries were evacuated to sub-district hospital Bijbehara.
They were identified as constable Muhammad Rafiq Mir, constable Liyaqat Ali Khan, constable Zia-ul-Haq, constable Surbjeet Singh, constable ParmanandKormi and constable Ram NathLohra.
All of them are stationed at 90 battalion F-Coy.
Earlier, the police, army and CRPF cordoned off the village following inputs about presence of militants there.
However, as the word that militants are trapped spread, people came out and pelted forces with stones to disrupt the operation.
The forces in turn lobbed tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters who, however, did not relent and continued to engage them in intense clashes.
A source said that militants took advantage of clashes and managed to flee from the area.
