Three Central Reserve Police Force personnel were Wednesday killed and another critically injured after an alleged altercation led to a firing incident inside their camp in Udhampur district of Jammu province, officials said.
Citing preliminary reports, an official source told Greater Kashmir that some argument broke out between CRPF personnel of 187 battalion deployed at Battal Balian in Udhampur, following which one of the personnel allegedly fired at his colleagues before shooting at himself. However, some reports suggested that the CRPF personnel fired at each other. Four soldiers were injured in the incident but three of them succumbed, the source said.
"At around 10.30pm, four injured CRPF personnel were brought to district hospital Udhampur. Three of them succumbed. The fourth one was critical and evacuated to the military command hospital," Dr Vijay Bansotra, medical superintendent of district hospital Udhampur said. Following the incident, the CRPF ordered a commission of inquiry into the incident.
An officialsaid a teamof top officers will probe the incident to "ascertain what exactlyled to the fatalities".
The identityof the deceased CRPF personnel couldn't be immediately ascertained.
News agencyGNS quoted Jammu range inspector general of police, MK Sinha, as saying thatthree personnel of CRPF's 187 battalion were killed at Battal allegedly by asoldier "who shot himself but is alive".The police have taken up
theinvestigations and further details ofthe incident are being ascertained, Sinha said.
