Three paramilitary personnel of Central Reserve Police Force were killed while two others sustained injuries when militants attacked a joint party of CRPF and Police at Noorbagh Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district Saturday evening.
In a statement, police said, "Militants fired upon a jointnaka party of police and CRPF at Ahad Baba crossing in Sopore area on Saturdayevening. Five CRPF personnel of 179 BN received bullet injuries in the incidentand were evacuated to a nearby hospital where three injured personnel succumbedto their injuries."
The slain CRPF men have been identified as head constableRajeev Sharma of Vaishali Bihar, constable B. Bhakare of Buldhana Maharashtraand constable Parmar Satyapal of Sabar kantha Gujarat. The injured have beenidentified as constable Javed Ahmad and head constable Biswajit Ghosh.
Soon after the attack, police and security forces cordonedNoorbagh and its adjacent areas and launched search operations. Additionaltroops were rushed to the area to nab the militants involved in the attack.
The injured CRPF personnel have been shifted to Army's92-Base Hospital in Badamibagh Cantonment Srinagar where they were operated forbullet injures.
On March 20, a special police officer (SPO) was killed andanother injured when militants fired at them at Warpora Sopore. A civilian wasalso killed in the shootout.
On Friday, four militants were killed in two differentencounters with security forces in Kishtwar and Shopian districts.
Last week, five army personnel and five militants werekilled in a fierce encounter in Kupwara district.
